This article analyzes the trade activities of the Karakalpaks in the documents of the Khiva Khanate during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Based on archival sources such as customs registers, tax records, trade agreements, and khan’s decrees, the study examines the Karakalpaks’ role in both domestic and foreign trade. The findings show that the Karakalpaks actively participated in local markets by trading livestock, fishery, and agricultural products, while in foreign trade they mainly exported karakul skins and fish products to Russian markets. Moreover, their trade activities significantly influenced not only economic development but also the socio-cultural interactions within the Khanate.
