Annotatsiya
The article examines the procedural status and key powers of the investigating judge as an important institution of judicial control at the pre-trial stage of criminal proceedings. It analyzes the historical background of this institution and its role in ensuring a balance between the functions of prosecution and defense, as well as in strengthening the guarantees of participants' rights. Particular attention is paid to the powers of the investigating judge to authorize procedural actions affecting the constitutional rights of citizens. Some problematic aspects and limitations of the existing powers of the investigating judge are also touched upon, particularly in the context of the Republic of Uzbekistan, where their functions are primarily related to sanctioning and considering administrative offense cases, which may not fully realize the potential for comprehensive judicial oversight
