This article explores the Islamic theory of siyar as articulated in the writings of the eminent 11th-century Hanafi jurist, Imam al-Sarakhsi. It focuses on the foundational components of Islamic international law: diplomatic immunity, the ethics of warfare, the status of prisoners of war, and the legal norms surrounding peace treaties and cross-border relations.
