Annotatsiya

Dental caries is one of the most common pediatric health problems. Numerous studies have established a strong association between vitamin D deficiency and an increased risk of dental caries in both molars and permanent teeth in children. The purpose of this descriptive review is to explore the putative mechanisms of the effect of vitamin D deficiency on the development of dental caries in children. Insufficient vitamin D levels during pregnancy can lead to intrauterine enamel defects, and deficiency during childhood is associated with decreased antibacterial peptide activity, decreased salivary secretion, and decreased salivary calcium concentrations.
