Annotatsiya

This article examines the conceptual divergences between Uzbek and English through the lens of comparative and cognitive linguistics. Rather than cataloging surface-level grammatical differences, it investigates how each language structures thought and encodes human experience at the level of meaning. Five domains of conceptualization are analyzed and spatial reference, where english favors egocentric orientation and uzbek tends toward absolute, landmark-based framing; temporal encoding, where english foregrounds tense while uzbek privileges aspect of confidentiality, where uzbek grammatically obligates speakers to signal the source and reliability of knowledge through verbal morphology, unlike the lexical optional approach of english. For instance: lexical categorization, where gaps and mismatches reveal different granularity of conceptual partitioning; and honorific systems, where uzbek embeds social hierarchy into grammatical structure while english manages it through register and style. The article argues that these divergences constitute distinct architectures of thought rather than mere translation challenges. It concludes with implications for linguists, translators, and cross-cultural communication professionals, emphasizing that effective mediation between the two languages requires engagement with their underlying conceptual systems.
