This article provides a comprehensive overview of the concept of a network layer and its role in computer networks. The layers of the OSI and TCP/IP models, which are based on network architecture, are explained in detail, the functions each of them performs and how they affect the information transmission process are analyzed. Also, all stages, from the physical layer to the software layer, are explained with examples. The article considers data transmission, packet exchange, protocol operation, and network security as important aspects in networks. It also discusses modern network technologies used today, and the interactions between layers in local and global networks. This article will be useful for those interested in information technology, computer networks, and cybersecurity, as well as students studying in this field.
