ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF ONLINE EDUCATION

Online education has become one of the defining phenomena of twenty-first century learning, accelerated dramatically by technological advancements and global disruptions such as the COVID-19 pandemic. This article investigates the advantages and disadvantages of online education by drawing on existing scholarly literature and empirical data gathered from students and educators in Uzbekistan and internationally. The study employs a mixed-methods research design, combining a structured survey of 220 respondents with qualitative interviews and a systematic review of peer-reviewed sources. Findings reveal that online education offers significant benefits—including flexibility, accessibility, cost-effectiveness, and the integration of innovative digital tools—while simultaneously presenting challenges such as limited social interaction, digital equity gaps, issues of self-regulation, and concerns about academic integrity. The article concludes with evidence-based recommendations for educators, policymakers, and institutions seeking to maximize the effectiveness of online learning environments.
