This article examines the main problematic issues of professional selection of candidates for higher educational institutions of power structures as one of the main components in giving a modern look to the professional Armed Forces of the state. The analysis of psychological and methodological research on this topic is made. The necessity of developing methods of drawing up (psychological passports) of specialties, competence profiles of specialists (military professiography) has been substantiated.
