The Role of TCP/IP and OSI Models in Building Computer Networks. The TCP/IP and OSI models play a crucial role in the construction of computer networks. The OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) model divides a network into seven layers, defining the functions of each and providing a standardized approach to network communication. It serves as a theoretical foundation for ensuring compatibility between network components and protocols.TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol), on the other hand, is a four-layer model widely used in practice. It enables data segmentation into packets, addressing, and routing, forming the backbone of the Internet and local networks.Both models are essential for understanding network protocols, designing network infrastructures, and ensuring interoperability between different devices and systems. While the OSI model serves as a theoretical framework, the TCP/IP model is applied in real-world scenarios and defines the core principles of global Internet functionality.
