SURKHANDARYA POMEGRANATE AS A STRATEGIC SOURCE OF UROLITHIN A PRECURSORS: MODERN PERSPECTIVES IN MAINTAINING MUSCLE AND CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH

It was determined that pomegranate varieties grown under the natural and climatic conditions of the Surkhandarya region accumulate high concentrations of ellagitannins and polyphenols. These bioactive compounds are metabolized by the intestinal microbiota into Urolithin A, which activates mitophagy and contributes to the restoration of mitochondrial functions. This process plays an important role in increasing skeletal muscle endurance, reducing ceramide levels in blood plasma, and protecting the cardiovascular system. In addition, the thick peel of Surkhandarya pomegranate may serve as a promising source of ellagitannins for the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries.
