At a time when urbanization is growing rapidly and the level of environmental pollution is increasing, the problem of wastewater treatment remains particularly urgent. Located on the border of desert and irrigated lands, Karakalpakstan faces serious challenges in the field of ecology. The gradual accumulation of toxic substances in water bodies and sources of drinking water has a negative impact on the health and ecosystems of the people of the region. Biofiltration using aquatic plants is an efficient and sustainable method of wastewater treatment. This process involves using the natural functions of plants to remove pollutants from water. This approach not only reduces the stress on a traditional wastewater treatment plant, but also promotes landscaping, improves water quality, and restores ecosystems. In this article, we will consider the principles of biofiltration, the possibilities of its application in Karakalpakstan, as well as the benefits and difficulties that may arise on the way to the introduction of this technology.
