METABOLIC SYNDROME AS THE BASIS FOR THE FORMATION OF PREDIABETIC CONDITIONS

This review analyzes current data on early disorders of carbohydrate metabolism in metabolic syndrome and their role in the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Differences in diagnostic criteria for metabolic syndrome are considered alongside the pathogenetic relationships linking insulin resistance, visceral obesity, chronic low-grade inflammation and dyslipidemia with impaired fasting glucose, impaired glucose tolerance and prediabetes. Epidemiological data from global, Central Asian and Uzbek populations are presented, with attention to screening approaches at the primary care level. Early preclinical dysglycemia within metabolic syndrome carries independent prognostic significance and warrants active identification.
