Dental status in patients with malignant epithelial tumors of the salivary glands

This study presents data on the assessment of the dental status of 318 patients with malignant epithelial tumors of the salivary glands. As a result of determining the dental status of patients with malignant epithelial tumors of the salivary glands, a high need for the treatment of hard dental tissue diseases—such as caries, its complications, wedge-shaped defects, etc.—was identified. According to the determined index, carious teeth, pulpitis, extracted teeth, and teeth requiring extraction were analyzed. On average, each male patient needed 3.16 teeth to be filled and 6.83 teeth to be removed. Among women hospitalized for malignant epithelial tumors of the salivary glands, an average of 2.71 teeth required therapeutic dental treatment, and 1.19 teeth needed extraction. If the number of teeth requiring extraction after sanitation was zero, the number of carious teeth after the process was 4.81 in men, while its reduction was due to an increase in the pulpitis component, which was 9.15 in women. The Fedorov-Volodkina Index decreased to an average of 1.8-2.0 ± 0.16.Objective of the study: To determine the dental status of patients with malignant epithelial tumors of the salivary glands in dynamics, both before treatment and after oral sanitation.Materials and methods. This study is based on the results of an examination of 318 patients with salivary gland cancer (166 men and 152 women). Salivary gland cancer was identified at stage II in 104 patients (32.7%), stage III in 122 patients (38.4%), and stage IV in 92 patients (28.9%).Results. Poor oral hygiene was identified among the patients. All patients with malignant epithelial tumors of the salivary glands who sought medical attention and were admitted for inpatient treatment required oral sanitation. This indicates insufficient attention to oral hygiene among these patients.
