ANALYSIS OF PARALINGUISTIC MEANS IN A LITERARY TEXT

The article is devoted to the studying paralinguistic means in a literary text. The article analyzes excerpts from the works of Uzbek, Russian and English literature to identify the specific and functional features of paralinguistic means in the literary texts of multi-system languages. The author designates the paralinguistic means acting in the literary text as markers, indicators by the term “paralexics”. The author includes paralinguistic markers in the general system of linguistic means. Such parameters as anthropocentrism, emotivity, evaluativeness, and expressivity, which make up the essence of paralinguistic units in a literary text, are revealed. The wide inclusion and description of gestures and facial expressions in a literary text is determined by the specifics of literature as a figurative way of reflecting reality. Considering the paralinguistic means in close interaction with the linguistic ones proper, their polyfunctionality is determined, manifested in various stylistic, pragmatic, cognitive and socio-cultural functions. Linguistic and paralinguistic means perform an interpretive function, revealing the image of the author, his artistic picture of the world. The cognitive function contributes to constructing an artistic image, which forms the conceptual basis of the entire work, its national and cultural specifics. The socio-cultural function of paralinguistic means is aimed at creating a professional image of a person, his social status and professionalism. All the functions of paralinguistic means listed in the article aim to express the author’s intentions and strategies, his/her aesthetic and value attitudes.
