Annotatsiya
This article analyzes the stratigraphic subdivision of Lower and Upper Cretaceous deposits based on foreign studies, including their stratotypes and modern stratigraphic approaches. The history of the development of Cretaceous stratigraphy, regional standards of the Tethyan and Boreal realms, and problems associated with the establishment of Global Boundary Stratotype Sections and Points (GSSP) are examined. Special attention is given to the role of ammonites, inoceramids, and other biostratigraphic indicators in the subdivision of Lower and Upper Cretaceous deposits. The study also considers the application of integrated stratigraphic methods such as biostratigraphy, magnetostratigraphy, chemostratigraphy, and isotope geochemistry. The results can be used for correlating regional geological sections with the international stratigraphic scale, as well as for geological mapping and mineral exploration.
