The article analyzes the principles of updating the traditions of the great poet and thinker Alisher Navai in the poetry of Zokirjon Furkat (1859-1909), a prominent representative of Uzbek literature of the period of national revival. This scientific problem is investigated on the basis of literary and aesthetic problems, such as: 1) the creation of tatabbu on the verses of Navoi; 2) composition of takhmises for gazelles by Alisher Navoi; 3) updating the poetic content; 4) the perfection of the poetic image; 5) updating the poetic genre; 6) tatabbu in metric versification. As a result of the analysis, it turned out that Furkat wrote tatabba for more than 10 gazelles of his great predecessor Alisher Navai, created takhmises for 5 gazelles and, continuing the traditions of his great predecessor, updated their content. The poetic improvement of the traditions of Alisher Navoi has been proved by the example of certain images and symbols. On the basis of examples, the fact that he created gazelles on the rarely used metric of aruz in Turkic poetry (in particular, komili musammani solim), like his great mentor, was investigated.
