MODERN APPROACHES TO DRUG TREATMENT OF OBESITY

Annotatsiya
Obesity is a chronic and relapsing disease that not only disrupts metabolism, but is also a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Although behavioral therapy is important in treating obesity, it is difficult to reach the ideal weight and maintain long-term weight loss on its own. Therefore, obesity guidelines strongly recommend initiation of medication therapy in patients with BMI ≥30 kg/m 2 and BMI ≥27 kg/m 2 with concomitant weight-related diseases, such as DM2. There is ample evidence to support that pharmacotherapy combined with behavioral interventions can lead to significant weight loss and improved cardiometabolism. One strategy for long-term control of obesity is that weight loss medications should be individualized for each patient, depending on their comorbidities and preferences.
