Annotatsiya
Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) is a learner-centered approach that emphasizes the use of authentic language through meaningful and purposeful tasks. This article examines the effectiveness of Task-Based Language Teaching in English language learning and highlights its role in developing learners’ communicative competence. Unlike traditional approaches that primarily focus on grammar rules and memorization, TBLT encourages students to use English in realistic situations, allowing them to enhance their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through active participation. The study discusses how task-based activities can increase learners’ motivation, confidence, interaction, and ability to use language effectively in real-life contexts. It also considers the role of teachers in designing appropriate tasks and creating a supportive learning environment. The findings suggest that TBLT can make English language learning more engaging, interactive, and meaningful while promoting learner autonomy and practical communication skills. Therefore, Task-Based Language Teaching can be considered an effective strategy to enhancing the overall quality of English language learning.

TASK-BASED LANGUAGE TEACHING AS AN EFFECTIVE APPROACH TO ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING Rimboyeva Mohinur 2nd year bachelor, faculty of foreign languages Karakalpak State University Abstract: Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) is a learner-centered approach that emphasizes the use of authentic language through meaningful and purposeful tasks. The study discusses how taskbased activities can increase learners’ motivation, confidence, interaction, and ability to use language effectively in real-life contexts. Keywords: Task-Based Language Teaching, English language learning, communicative competence, learner-centered approach, language skills, motivation, task-based activities. Introduction: In today’s rapidly changing educational environment, effective approaches to English language teaching have become increasingly important. Traditional teaching methods often focus on grammar rules, memorization, and teacher-centered instruction, which may not provide learners with sufficient opportunities to use English in reallife situations. As a result, students who are language educators have increasingly explored learner-centered approaches that promote active participation and meaningful communication. One such approach is Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT), which places meaningful tasks at the center of the language learning process. Task-Based Language Teaching is an approach in which learners use the target language to complete purposeful and communicative tasks. Instead of learning language structures in isolation, students are encouraged to use English to solve problems, exchange information, express opinions, and accomplish specific goals. Through these activities, learners can develop both their linguistic knowledge and communicative competence. TBLT also provides opportunities for students to interact with their peers, negotiate meaning, and apply newly acquired language in authentic or realistic contexts.
The effectiveness of TBLT has attracted considerable attention among language educators and researchers because of its potential to increase learner engagement, motivation, and communicative ability. By making students active participants in the learning process, taskbased activities can create a more interactive and meaningful classroom environment. Therefore, this article examines Task-Based Language Teaching as an effective approach to English language teaching, focusing on its main principles, benefits, challenges, and contribution to the development of learners’ communicative competence.
The Concept and Importance of Task-Based Language Teaching Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) has emerged as a widely recognized approach to language teaching that prioritizes authentic language use through the completion of real-world tasks (Xue, 2022). This method shifts the focus from traditional grammar instruction to engaging students in activities that require the use of language to achieve specific outcomes (Mudinillah, 2019, 2022a, 2022b). TBLT promotes communicative competence by encouraging learners to interact in meaningful ways, mirroring how language is used outside the classroom (Wang, 2022). As globalization increases the demand for communicative proficiency, TBLT has become increasingly relevant in language education. TBLT is rooted in the idea that language learning is more effective when learners are focused on tasks that are relevant and engaging (Albuquerque, 2022). Designing Innovative Tasks for Language Learning: Developing innovative tasks that facilitate effective language learning necessitates a thoughtful understanding of pedagogical objectives, learner proficiency levels, and the resources available. From problem-solving tasks to role-play exercises, and project-based activities, each approach has distinct benefits that can be tailored to fit the varying needs of students. 1. Problem-solving Tasks: Problem-solving tasks serve as effective tools for language learning as they foster critical thinking and require the use of language in an authentic context [2]. These tasks often involve real-life scenarios, like planning a trip, mediating a conflict, or designing a business proposal. Introducing a competitive element to these tasks, such as a time constraint or a scoring system, can further increase engagement and motivation [3]. 2. Role-play Tasks: Role-play tasks provide a safe space for learners to experiment with language use [6]. By assuming different characters and personas, learners are compelled to use diverse language registers and vocabularies. Innovations in this domain can include the integration of culturally diverse scenarios and characters, which can provide learners with an understanding of various cultural contexts. 3. Project-based Tasks: Project-based tasks offer ample opportunities for learners to use language in a meaningful, purposeful manner [7]. These projects can span across several weeks and involve tasks like creating a magazine, filming a short video, or organizing a school event. The innovative aspect of these tasks can be amplified by integrating technology or multimedia into the task design.
Development of Speaking Skills Torky’s (2006) study investigated the efficacy of task-based instructions in terms of the speaking skills’ development. The participants of this study were first year secondary students who were taught through TBLT. The results clearly exhibited enhancement in the students’ overall speaking performance, fluency and increased confidence. Similarly, Murad (2009) examined the influence of task-based language teaching on the development of speaking skills where secondary EFL students’ attitudes were explored towards English language. TBLT approach was implemented along with pre- and post-tests conducted in the classroom. Students’ attitude towards English language was investigated through attitudinal questionnaire and findings revealed that the TBLT program was able to enhance experimental students’ speaking skills and their attitudes were affected positively about English. In conclusion, Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) is successful learner-centered approach that promotes meaningful communication and active participation in English language learning. Problem-solving, role-play, and project-based tasks provide learners with opportunities to use English in authentic and engaging situations. Research findings also show that TBLT can improve speaking skills, fluency, confidence, motivation, and communicative competence. Although its successful implementation requires careful task design and appropriate teacher support, TBLT can create a more interactive and effective learning environment. Therefore, integrating task-based activities into English language classrooms can help learners become more confident and competent users of English.
