The article discusses the specific role of the stage of the judicial investigation in the consideration of criminal cases in the court of first instance, the issues of improving the judicial investigation. The article also analyzes the experience of foreign countries on the stage of judicial investigation in criminal proceedings. The views of foreign scientists on the improvement of this stage, the results of practical surveys, the specificity of the principle of dispute in the judicial investigation are described. During the consideration of the criminal case, recommendations and suggestions were made on amendments to the criminal procedure legislation to improve the stage of the judicial investigation.
