This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the syntactic and semantic properties of ergative constructions, emphasizing their unique role in English grammar. By delving into key linguistic theories and scholarly discussions, it explores how ergative verbs function in sentence structures, transitioning seamlessly between transitive and intransitive forms. The study highlights the dual behavior of ergative verbs, which can encode both causative actions and the affectedness of entities within a single linguistic framework.
