EFFICIENCY OF OSTEOPATHIC THERAPY IN VERTEBRAL ARTERY SYNDROME

Vertebrogenic vertebral artery syndrome (VAS) is one of the most common reasons for patients to consult an osteopathic physician. This study presents data on the classification, pathophysiological mechanisms, clinical manifestations, and diagnostic methods of this condition. Clinical, radiological, and ultrasound (both extracranial and transcranial duplex) examinations were conducted on patients before and after therapy. The effectiveness of osteopathic treatment was compared with that of conventional pharmacological therapy. Objective: To assess the effectiveness of osteopathic treatment methods in patients with different clinical forms of vertebral artery syndrome (VAS). Materials and Methods: The study included clinical, radiological, and duplex ultrasound examinations. Anatomical abnormalities of the vertebral artery, such as deformities and convolutions, as well as signs of venous circulatory disorders, were identified. Results: The clinical picture in patients with vertebral artery syndrome was mainly characterized by dizziness, headache, and neck pain. Following the course of treatment, patients showed a reduction in headache and neck pain, decreased dizziness and head noise, and improved coordination and gait. There was an increase in blood flow velocity in the vertebral artery, a decrease in the resistance index (RI), and improved venous outflow, especially in Group I, where the changes were more pronounced. Conclusion: Osteopathic treatment was found to be more effective than conventional pharmacological therapy in improving cerebral hemodynamics and venous outflow, leading to a greater reduction in clinical symptoms of vertebral artery syndrome. Positive changes were observed in both groups, but the degree of improvement was higher in Group I.
