Annotatsiya

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms. Ketogenic diets (KDs), high in fat and low in carbohydrates, have gained attention as potential adjunctive interventions for PD due to their neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and mitochondrial-enhancing effects. This review summarizes clinical evidence on the effects of ketogenic dietary interventions in PD, with a focus on biomarkers, depression, anxiety, and quality of life (QoL). Emerging data suggest that KD may improve motor and non-motor symptoms, modulate metabolic and inflammatory biomarkers, and enhance overall well-being. However, evidence is limited by small sample sizes, short intervention durations, and heterogeneity in dietary protocols. Further large-scale, randomized controlled trials are required.
