The article analyzes the specifics of the activities of self-government bodies, as well as the role and place of public control in it. The system of self-government and mechanisms of public control in the sub-local system in developed countries were also studied. Described are effective mechanisms for establishing public control in different management systems, the principles of its operation in various branches of local government, as well as the stages of its implementation. The features of the introduction of innovative ideas into the activities of self-government bodies are considered.
