This study investigates the kinematics of spindle drums based on a planetary-cam-linkage mechanism with elliptical trajectories. Analytical expressions were developed to determine the linear and angular velocities of spindles, considering geometric parameters like crank and lever lengths, and ellipse axes. Numerical experiments revealed that increasing the majorsemi-axis and lever length significantly raises spindle velocities. The elliptical configuration expands the contact zone and improves cotton harvesting efficiency. Optimal design parameters for cotton-harvesting apparatuses are recommended.
