Protection of Natural Areas in Uzbekistan

This article analyzes the formation of the system of protected natural areas in Uzbekistan, its legal foundations, and current development trends. Following independence, a solid legal framework was established to ensure ecological security and sustainable development through the creation of nature reserves, national parks, biosphere reserves, and other specially protected areas. In recent years, within the framework of the “Yashil Makon” (“Green Space”) program, millions of trees have been planted, and new national parks and reserves have been established. Uzbekistan actively cooperates with UNESCO and other international organizations in biodiversity conservation, combating desertification, and the establishment of transboundary protected areas. In the Aral Sea region, a number of international projects aimed at ecosystem restoration and the development of a green economy are being implemented.
