Abstract
This article analyzes the role and importance of librarianship in the modern information society. It examines the traditional functions of libraries as well as their new directions in the digital era. In particular, electronic catalogs, virtual library services, and opportunities for remote user interaction are highlighted. The article also discusses the socio-cultural functions of libraries, their role in promoting reading among youth, and their importance in shaping spiritual values
