SPECIALIZATION OF KARAKUL BREEDING IN THE LIVESTOCK COMPLEXES OF SOUTHERN UZBEKISTAN AND ITS SYSTEMIC PROBLEMS (1960-1980)

This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the specialization of livestock industries, particularly karakul and sheep breeding, in the Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions – the southern territories of Uzbekistan –ithin the framework of the Soviet state's agrarian policy in the 1960s-1980s. Based on archival documents and periodical press materials, it covers in detail the chronological stages of the sector's development, industrialization processes, and specific regional characteristics. Furthermore, the study examines the negative impacts of the centralized economic model on the region's economy and ecology.
