TOURISM DISCOURSE AS AN OBJECT OF LINGUISTIC RESEARCH: A COMPARATIVE LINGUISTICS PERSPECTIVE

This article examines tourism discourse as an object of linguistic inquiry from the standpoint of comparative and contrastive linguistics. Positioning tourism discourse within the broader field of specialized and institutional discourse studies, it reviews the sociolinguistic, pragmatic, and discourse-analytical frameworks that have shaped the field and considers their applicability to typologically distant, unrelated languages such as Uzbek and English. Using a descriptive-comparative method combined with elements of pragmatic analysis, the article proposes a three-level working typology for the cross-linguistic study of tourism discourse, distinguishing lexical-semantic, structural-compositional, and pragmatic dimensions of comparison. The analysis shows that the dominant models of tourism discourse have been developed largely on English-language and Indo-European material, leaving Turkic languages such as Uzbek analytically underrepresented in the cross-linguistic literature, and argues for a comparative-typological research design capable of accommodating such structural and cultural asymmetries. The proposed framework is intended to serve as a methodological foundation for subsequent contrastive analysis of Uzbek and English tourism discourse within the specialization of comparative and contrastive linguistics.
