Hormonal and cytogenetic features of the oral mucosa in pregnant and breastfeeding women with chronic recurrent herpetic stomatitis

Аннотация
The study analyzed the hormonal and cytogenetic characteristics of the oral mucosa in 95 women (51 pregnant and 44 lactating) aged 18 to 40 years with chronic recurrent herpetic stomatitis (CRHS). Oral steroid hormone levels were measured using ELISA, and buccal epithelium was cytologically examined using scraping followed by Romanovsky-Giemsa staining. Hormonal changes characteristic of pregnancy and lactation were found to significantly influence the course of CRHS, contributing to its reactivation. Women with CRHS showed a significant increase in cortisol levels and a change in the frequency of cytogenetic abnormalities, including micronuclei and signs of nuclear destruction. The identified morphofunctional changes indicate genetic instability of oral mucosal cells and confirm the pathogenetic role of hormonal imbalance in the development of herpetic lesions. The obtained data can be used to improve the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of chronic cerebral hemorrhage in pregnant and lactating women.
