This study is devoted to highlighting the history of the development of artificialintelligence (AI) technologies used in higher education institutions and their current practicalapplication. It analyzes the main types of AI technologies used in modern education, starting fromthe 1965 “Plato” system, such as virtual tutors, voice assistants, smart content, presentationtranslators, automatic assessment, personalized education, smart campuses and plagiarismdetection systems. It also presents the principles of operation, conveniences and practical examplesfor each type of technology, emphasizing the importance of AI technologies in the effectiveorganization of the educational process, saving time, faster assimilation of information andindividualization of the learning process.
