INTERPRETATION OF THE IMAGE OF THE SNAKE IN THE RUSSIAN AND UZBEK LINGUOCULTURES

Abstract
The image of a snake in the system of zoonymic vocabulary unlike most other animals, is distinguished by its special richness and diversity of symbolism. The inconsistency of the image of a snake is manifested in the fact that it is popularly considered a symbol of wisdom, and at the same time, it appears as a negative image, associated with such concepts as “evil”, “danger”, “fear”, “meanness”, and “aggression”. Perhaps that is why different peoples' linguocultural features and views regarding the image of a snake generally coincide. This article is devoted to studying the multifunctional image of a snake in Russian and Uzbek linguistic cultures. It reveals the denotative and connotative meanings of phraseological and paremiological units with the key zoonym component “snake”, identifies common and distinctive clichéd units in the Russian and Uzbek languages, and also provides examples of their functioning in fiction.
