CHARACTERISTICS OF THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF PATIENTS WITH BRONCHIAL ASTHMA, CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE AND THEIR COMBINATION

The significance of COPD and BA is required by a thorough study of the combination of these diseases in one patient. Data on the prevalence of COPD and BA in one patient are different and variable due to differences in the diagnosis of pathologies and deprivation of the "gold standard". The incidence of diseases ranges from 12 to 55% among patients with COPD and 13-61% in asthma. The presence of both pathological conditions leads to various shortcomings in diagnosis and treatment. The increase in the effectiveness of early and differential diagnosis, taking into account the assessment of quality of life using special questionnaires in patients with bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and their combination. 101 patients were examined, of which there were 35 patients with bronchial asthma, 35 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and 31 patients with comorbidity (BA + COPD), as well as 20 healthy volunteers. As the severity of the disease increased, the total scores reflecting the subjective feelings of the patient increased (cough, chest tightness, shortness of breath when climbing stairs, sputum, limited physical activity at home) and showed a deterioration in the quality of life of patients.The study showed that patients with BA + COPD, in comparison with the isolated course of the disease, have reduced quality of life indicators both when assessed by the St. George Hospital questionnaire (P<0.001) and when assessed by the CAT questionnaire (P<0.001).
