Abstract
This article highlights the importance of paleotectonic research for solving problems related to oil and gas geology, the essence and methods of paleotectonic analysis. The names of researchers who substantiated the importance of paleotectonic studies in solving the problems of oil and gas geology and, mainly, for the search for oil and gas deposits are noted. Of these, special attention is paid to the works of V.V. Belousov, M.Y. Rudkevich, V.B. Neiman, A.Kh. Nugmanov, and others. The essence and methods of paleotectonic analysis, the features of the development of tectonic structures and the tasks of paleotectonic analysis in the study of the conditions of their formation are described. It is stated that the main task of the paleotectonic method is to determine the morphological features of tectonic structures, their relative age, tectonic movements and deformation features that create favorable conditions for the accumulation of hydrocarbons in tectonic and lithological-stratigraphic conditions.
