A no-reference quantitative approach to echocardiographic image quality assessment

Annotaciya
The quality of echocardiographic images directly affects the reliability of visual analysis of cardiac structures and the results of automated image processing. In practical settings, obtaining a reference image under identical anatomical conditions and imaging parameters is generally not feasible, which makes no-reference quantitative image quality assessment an important research problem. This study proposes an approach for assessing the quality of echocardiographic images without using a reference image. Image quality is evaluated based on intensity-range utilization, local structural contrast, structural sharpness, the balance between speckle components and structural information, and the degree of structural regularity of the image information. To account for structural characteristics at different spatial scales, the active ultrasound scanning region is identified and a multiscale analysis is performed. The individual quality indicators are normalized and integrated into a unified quantitative quality index. The proposed approach enables quantitative assessment of echocardiographic image quality without requiring a reference image or expert-provided quality scores and allows the principal factors contributing to image quality degradation to be identified.
