PARATHYROID GLANDS: ANATOMO-PHYSIOLOGICAL ASPECTS AND HORMONES ACTION

In review paper, the authors presented data about anatomy and physiology of parathyroid glands, molecular mechanism of parathyroid hormone action, interaction with vitamin D, its derivatives and receptors, also explained in details the role of calcitonine, FGF23, FGFRs, calcium sensing receptor CaSR and Klotho protein. Hormonal action of PTH were described in details with illustration, especially regulation of calcium and phosphorus level in the blood plasma and in bones mineralisation. Information about disturbance of mineral metabolism and involving of parathyroid glands with development of primary, secondary and tertiary pathology described. This review presented interest for family doctors, specialist physicians such as endocrinologist, nephrologist, hemodialysis doctors, surgeons, also for students and residents.
