The Purposes and Pragmalinguistic Features of Code-Switching in Uzbek and English Languages

This study explores the purposes and pragmalinguistic features of code-switching in Uzbek-English bilingual communication. By analyzing conversational data and participant interviews, the research identifies key functions of code-switching such as expressing social identity, clarifying meaning, emphasizing points, managing politeness, and conveying emotional nuances. The findings reveal that code-switching is a deliberate communicative strategy reflecting both linguistic creativity and social context. This paper contributes to bilingual pragmatics by shedding light on the under-researched Uzbek-English language pair, offering insights into how bilingual speakers navigate multiple languages to achieve effective and meaningful interaction.
