Fractional flow reserve for assessment of coronary hemodynamics and its role in determining the tactics of endovascular treatment in patients with CAD

Аннотация
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death globally, taking an estimated 17.9 million lives each year. Coronary artery disease (CAD) accounts for one third of all deaths from the diseases of the circulatory system. Coronary angiogram is considered as the gold standard in diagnosing CAD. However, this technique is limited with two-dimensional view of the coronary arteries and gives limited information on the functional and hemodynamic condition of the arteries. For this reason, it is becoming increasingly important to define coronary physiology. Fractional flow reserve (FFR) as a method of invasive assessment of coronary blood flow based on measurement of trans-stenotic pressure gradient has received universal recognition. Currently, it plays an important role in determining the tactics for myocardial revascularization and deferring unnecessary percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI).
