Abstract

The article presents the issues of prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Atherosclerosis, the underlying cause of these diseases, continues to be a trend in modern research. Presently available prophylactic measures prevent or significantly delay most cardiovascular diseases. This is not always the case, which is why the attention of scientists is also directed towards medicinal ways of preventing and treating atherosclerosis. Herbal medicines, which have a number of advantages in comparison with synthetic drugs, are reasonably considered among possible options. Plant triterpene glycosides: leontoside, dipsacoside and ladyginoside were investigated in experiments on rabbits. It was established that ladyginoside has the greatest effect on atherosclerosis in the experiment, its application leads to the reduction of atherogenic lesions by 3,77 times in comparison with cholesterol control animals. Next is dipsacoside, which reduced atherosclerosis lesions by 3.70 times. The drug leontoside, which reduced atherogenic lesions by 3.22 times, concludes this series.
