Аннотация

The article examines the issue of ethnic identity through the case of the ethnic history of the Surkhandarya oasis in the 20th century. The concept of ethnic identity is analyzed within the framework of major theoretical approaches, including primordialism, modernism, and related perspectives. The study demonstrates that ethnic identity serves as a significant factor in shaping clan-based relations and the ethnic composition of the population.
