THE ROLE OF PRESUPPOSITION IN SHAPING AUDIENCE PERCEPTION: A PRAGMALINGUISTIC APPROACH
Alixonov, Mirzoulug‘bek
Annotaciya
This article examines presupposition as a pragmatic mechanism that influences audience perception in contemporary discourse. Presuppositions enable speakers and writers to introduce information indirectly by presenting certain assumptions as already accepted facts. Such assumptions often remain unquestioned and therefore play a significant role in the interpretation of messages. The study analyzes major presupposition triggers and demonstrates their functioning in political, media, and public communication. Particular attention is paid to the ways presuppositions guide interpretation, frame social issues, and contribute to persuasive communication. The findings indicate that presupposition serves as a powerful discourse strategy that affects both individual and collective understanding of reality.
