A COMPARATIVE LINGUOCULTURAL ANALYSIS OF THE CONCEPT "MAN" IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK PAREMIOLOGY

This article provides a comparative, multi-dimensional linguocultural analysis of the concept "man" (erkak / yigit / inson) as manifested in English and Uzbek paremiological units. Utilizing a corpus of gender-oriented proverbs extracted from representative lexicographical sources—specifically Thomas Moore’s “Hand-Book of Proverbs” (1899) and the academic collections of “O‘zbek xalq maqollari”—this study categorizes and compares the semantic structures, cultural constants, and distinct variables embedded within both linguistic worldviews. The results indicate that while both cultures construct parallel archetypes regarding economic provider status, domestic responsibility, and the condemnation of moral degeneracy, their core ideological configurations diverge significantly. The English paremiological model leans heavily leans heavily toward individualistic pragmatism, structural authority, intellectual rationality, and individual economic agency. Conversely, the Uzbek model prioritizes collectivist harmony, profound patriotism, community integration, and an intense prioritization of moral honor and communal dignity. Ultimately, this research sheds light on the cognitive-linguistic mechanisms through which distinct socio-historical trajectories and geographic realities shape conceptualizations of masculinity within Germanic and Turkic paremiological systems.
