THE VIRTUAL LINGUISTIC PERSONALITY AND SOCIO-PRAGMATIC DYNAMICS OF GENDER-SPECIFIC SELF-PRESENTATION IN UZBEK DIGITAL DISCOURSE

This article explores the concept of the Virtual Linguistic Personality (VLP) and examines the socio-pragmatic features of gender-specific self-presentation in Uzbek digital communication. Based on a representative corpus of online user profiles, nicknames, avatars, posts, and comments across YouTube, Telegram, and Instagram, we construct a structural model of the Uzbek VLP consisting of fourdistinct layers: identificational, verbal-semantic, pragmatic, and interactive. The research analyzes the structural and semantic composition of nicknames and explores how gender is performatively indexed in digital texts. While female VLPs tend to employ emotional-evaluative vocabulary, positive reinforcement, and polite softening strategies, male VLPs are characterized by greater directness, argumentative stance, technical terminology, and ironical/confrontational forms. Crucially, the paper demonstrates that digital anonymity and platform affordances loosen rigid gender boundaries, turning digital gender indexicality into a dynamic, context-dependent communicative role rather than a fixed biological marker. The findings contribute to the understanding of identity construction in non-Western digital spaces.
