METAPHORICAL EXPRESSION OF QUANTITY IN ENGLISH

Abstract
This article examines the metaphorical expression of quantity in English withinconceptualmetaphor theory. It analyzes recurrent mappings, including more is up, quantity is a container, andscalesarepaths, showing how abstract amount is grounded in physical experience. Using a qualitative, corpus-informedmethod, the study classifies metaphorical quantity expressions from everyday, economic, and scientificdiscourse.Results show that quantity metaphors are pervasive and systematic, confirming the role of embodiedcognitioninshaping linguistic meaning.
