Authentic Materials as Tools for the Development of Professionally Oriented Communicative Competence

Abstract
This article examines the role of authentic materials in developing professionally oriented communicative competence among university students, with particular attention to authentic video. The review of relevant literature shows that authentic materials expose learners to natural language, professional communication, and culturally situated interaction. Authentic video offers additional value by combining spoken language with visual and contextual information. However, its effectiveness depends on careful material selection, meaningful tasks, teacher support, and appropriate scaffolding. The article argues that authentic video, when used purposefully, can help connect classroom English learning with the communicative demands of real professional settings.
