ANALYSIS OF MACRO- AND MICROSTRUCTURAL INDICATORS OF THE BRAIN OF PATIENTS WITH ISCHEMIC STROKE DUE TO ALCOHOL DEPENDENCE

Aim: A comparative study of macro- and microstructural indicators of the brain of young patients with ischemic stroke due to alcohol dependence. Materials and methods. The study included 62 patients in the acute period of ischemic stroke, divided into two groups. The main group included 30 patients with ischemic stroke due to alcohol dependence, the comparison group included 32 people without alcohol dependence. It was established that in 26.67% cases they had a higher education and in 100% of cases they were unemployed. Results. When conducting a comparative analysis, in patients of the main group, focal changes were visualized on a series of CT images in 76.9% of cases, while in the comparison group changes were observed only in 65.9% of patients. In persons with alcohol dependence, we observed increased values of linear parameters of the brain, which indicates a more severe course of the ischemic process and is confirmed by the severity of the neurological deficit. To a lesser extent, in patients of this group, signs of atrophy of the cerebral cortex and the presence of lacunar foci were visualized, but the number of cases of hemorrhagic transformation of the ischemic focus was 5 times higher. Conclusion. In the course of studying the macro- and microstructural cerebral factors of ischemic stroke, differences were identified between the compared groups, and the dependence of the severity of neurological semiotics on the so-called “neuroimaging phenomenon” was established, i.e. localization of the pathological focus, its size and degree of involvement of brain structures.
