DIAGNOSIS OF BACTERIAL COMPLICATIONS IN COVID-19-ASSOCIATED PNEUMONIA

Bacterial complications of COVID-19 are very common and directly impact the severity and outcome of the disease. This study identified a spectrum of clinically significant bacterial pathogens in samples collected from patients with COVID-19 associated pneumonia, as well as obtained data on the sensitivity of antibiotics to isolated pathogens. The results of antibiotic susceptibility testing of isolates isolated from patients allowed us to develop evidence-based recommendations for the selection of empirical antibacterial therapy for patients with COVID-19 associated pneumonia. Secondary bacterial infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus is rare, so in outpatient practice, antibacterial agents should not be prescribed unjustifiably, and overdiagnosis and polypharmacy should be avoided. However, patients hospitalized in hospitals need to be given special attention to prevent the development of nosocomial infections, including COVID-19.
