Abstract
Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a common and clinically significant manifestation of cystic fibrosis in children, influencing the course of pulmonary disease and patients’ quality of life. Dysfunction of the CFTR protein leads to mucus dehydration, impaired mucociliary clearance, and persistent bacterial colonization of the paranasal sinuses. Despite the high prevalence of radiological abnormalities, clinical symptoms in children are often mild or underrecognized, complicating early diagnosis. This review summarizes current approaches to the diagnosis of CRS in children with cystic fibrosis, including symptom-endoscopic and imaging techniques, as well as microbiological and molecular methods. Contemporary strategies of conservative management are analyzed, including irrigation therapy, topical corticosteroids, antibacterial treatment, and CFTR modulators. Particular attention is paid to the need for standardized diagnostic criteria, reduction of systemic antibiotic burden, and development of personalized therapeutic approaches.
