CLINICAL AND FUNCTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS AND THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SPECIALIZED NEUROREHABILITATION AFTER SURGICAL TREATMENT OF SPINAL MENINGIOMAS

Introduction. Spinal meningiomas are among the most common benign tumors of the spinal canal and are frequently associated with neurological deficits due to spinal cord compression. Although surgical resection is highly effective, a subset of patients presents with residual functional impairments requiring specialized neurorehabilitation. Objective. To evaluate the clinical and functional characteristics of patients after surgical treatment of spinal meningiomas and to assess the effectiveness of specialized neurorehabilitation using standardized functional outcome measures. Materials and Methods. A retrospective analysis of patients who underwent surgical resection of spinal meningiomas followed by neurorehabilitation was conducted. Functional status was assessed using the Barthel Index, Spinal Cord Independence Measure (SCIM III), and the ASIA Impairment Scale. Results. Most patients exhibited incomplete paraplegia and varying degrees of mobility and sphincter dysfunction. After rehabilitation, significant improvements in functional independence, mobility, and activities of daily living were observed. Changes in ASIA grades were noted in a subset of patients, indicating partial neurological recovery. Conclusion. Specialized neurorehabilitation represents an effective component of comprehensive management in patients with spinal meningiomas and significantly contributes to functional recovery and quality of life. Further multicenter studies are required to optimize rehabilitation strategies.
