Abstract
The article raises the issue of the importance of identifying the gender factor in the language, which led to the selection of the gender paradigm as the main vector of modern gender studies. It is noted that the growing interest in the gender paradigm in linguistics is motivated by the natural, cultural and philosophical duality of any object in terms of the «male/female» opposition. The main directions of characterization of gender in linguistics are considered. The author concludes that the result of the research of modern linguists is the formation of general principles for the analysis of gender in language and speech.
