Gems are monuments of a special kind. Since ancient times, they have served as ornaments, amulets or seals. Gems performed several functions: they were used as personal seals and as amulet jewelry. Their manufacture required rocks of special jewelry stones and high technique of the jeweler’s skill. According to the method of wearing, they can be attributed to pendant seals, the location of which was different in the man’s suit. During archaeological excavations, gems were found on Varakhsha, Paikend, Vardanze, and they were in private collections of Bukhara local historians. Some of them have been published. The collection of gems acquired in the early 19th century by the English resident A. Borns in Bukhara was later transferred by him to the British Museum and published in a book in the form of a photograph with Greco-Bactrian coins with a brief accompanying inscription. The study of six gems from the collection of A. Borns made it possible to introduce into scientific circulation a new, previously unpublished material, a deeper study of which will make it possible to introduce new data into the history of the Bukhara oasis.
